"So verbally dexterous and visually innovative that you can't absorb it unless you have all your wits about you. And even then, you may want to see it again to enjoy its subtle humor and warm humanity."

WAKING LIFE
fox films, 2001

Waking Life, the new release from Richard Linklater, binds the actors from his previous cinematic releases in a philosophical mind-bender. The animatory success is only superceded by the Sartre- and Kierkegaard-influenced philosophical meanderings of the cast. One could simply watch the film and ignore the dialogue, or listen to dialogue and not watch the animation, but to do both is to elevate the mind into a state of perspicacity not previously reached.

Tiana Lighter"I want real human moments. I want to see you. I want you to see me."
